CaffeinateCat is a Mac menu-bar app that keeps your Mac awake. This policy says, in plain words, what happens to your data. There is very little to say: we never receive it.
01What we collect
Nothing. There is no sign-up and no user account, and no server that receives your settings, your battery level, your Mac’s name or a usage log.
02What stays on your Mac
CaffeinateCat keeps a few things on your own Mac, and none of them is uploaded. They are your preferences (the durations you chose, which options are on, and the mode you used last), kept in macOS’s standard preferences for the app; a short marker that is written just before lid-closed mode is turned on and removed once it is verifiably off, so the app can put normal sleep back if it was ever interrupted; and, only if you turn on Open at login, a small launch file in your Library folder. Deleting the app and those files removes all of it. We cannot read any of it.
03Your battery level
To switch itself off at 20% and 10%, and to draw the cup in the menu bar, the app reads your battery level from macOS. It is used only on your Mac, at that moment. It is not stored or sent anywhere.
04Administrator permission
Lid-closed mode needs a setting that only an administrator can change. The first time you turn it on, macOS shows its own password prompt (Touch ID works too). Your password goes to macOS, not to CaffeinateCat, which never sees or stores it. The app then installs a small rule in /etc/sudoers.d/caffeinatecat that allows exactly two commands, pmset -a disablesleep 1 and pmset -a disablesleep 0. You can remove the rule at any time with Options → Remove Lid-Close Permission….
05Network, and updates
Versions before 1.3.0 make no network connections at all. From version 1.3.0, CaffeinateCat checks for updates: it asks noxdrop.com for a small file that lists the latest version, and if there is a newer one it downloads it from the same place. Every update is signed and checked on your Mac before it is installed. That request does not include your name, your settings, your battery level or anything you do with the app. As with any download, the server sees the internet address the request comes from and the name and version of the app; we do not use them to identify you. You can run a check yourself with Check for Updates… in the panel.
06Third parties & tracking
There are no advertising networks and no analytics or tracking tools in the app. Your usage is not profiled, shared or sold. The website is hosted by an ordinary web host, whose server logs record requests to it, as for any website.
07Your control
Because we never receive your data, there is nothing for us to delete on request. To remove everything the app put on your Mac, use Remove Lid-Close Permission…, turn off Open at login, and delete the app. Or by hand: sudo rm /etc/sudoers.d/caffeinatecat and rm -f ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.caffeinatecat.launcher.plist.
